The Perth Jr. B Blue Wings solidified their last line of defense last week with the addition of a new netminder.

"We were lucky to get Dylan Brind'Amour from Metcalfe," said Colin Glenn, head coach and general manager of the Blue Wings. "It's like a breath of fresh air. When I heard he was available, I contacted him right away. He certainly gives our guys a confidence boost to know that Dylan is in nets."

That said, the Blue Wings played two tough games last weekend, still looking for that illusive first win.

"Friday night against Almonte, we hit a post and had a goal called back," Glenn said. "That game could have just as easily been a win," rather than a 1-0 loss.

"The boys are really coming together, but we had too many passengers on the bus Friday night," said Glenn. "A couple of the local boys just froze out there in front of that big hometown crowd."

The game winner - and only goal - came in the second period when Cameron Cornwall scored from Jacob Cuffley and Terry Mallon at 5:49.

Game stars included Perth's Brind'Amour and Almonte's Matthew Dodds, along with Cornwall.

The Friday night crowd topped out at 417, the largest to date. That may have had something to do with a few more students in the stands, as some of the players were out to local schools on Friday, handing out free tickets, handshakes and autographs. Michael McLean, the team's owner, said it was a great opportunity to get the guys into the community. "That's what hockey's all about." Arnprior 4 Perth 3 On Sunday in Arnprior, the Packers held off a late game charge by the Blue Wings to seal a tough 4-3 win.

Arnprior opened the scoring in the first with Liam Killeen's goal at 11:18. Perth responded just four minutes later with Travis Marshall's goal from Aaron Gregoire.

The Packers went ahead in the second with the only goal of the period, as Killeen had his second.

In the third, Perth's Anthony Scattolon tied the score with his goal from Joel Cunningham with 2:12 showing.

Arnprior fought back with their go-ahead marker from Luc Deschamps at 14:43 then the insurance marker with 15:14 on the clock.

A power play goal from Andrew Davis from Scattolon and Cunningham, gave the Blue Wings a little incentive, but that was as far as Perth was able to get.

Winning netminder was Mateo Scapillati with 31 of 34 saves.

Brind'Amour faced 36 shots for the Blue Wings.

Stars were Killeen with two goals for Arnprior, Brind'Amour for Perth and Arnprior goalie Scapillati.

Coming up this week, the Blue Wings are hosting the Metcalfe Jets at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. It's their only game this week, but the team will be on the ice three other evenings this week for practice.

Glenn says he won't have to get Brind'Amour fired up for the Friday night game.

"It's like a breath of fresh air to have him in our lineup, especially when we face Metcalfe Friday - that's where he played last year," said the coach.

"The guys are improving and (last) weekend, they didn't quit, even when they were down against Arnprior."
