BARRIE, ON - The pennant-winning Barrie Baycats got one step closer to completing what might become one of the greatest years in recent IBL memory by eliminating the Brantford Red Sox in Game 7 by a score of 5-3. The #1 seeded Baycats will take on the #2 London Majors in the Dominico Trophy Championship series.

Brantford’s historic six year run as league champions ended Tuesday evening after falling behind early and never catching up.

The Baycats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jordan Castaldo slammed his first home run of the post season with Ryan Spataro at first base and one out. Barrie scored again in the fourth inning when Kevin Atkinson launched his third home run in two days with a full count leading off the inning. Jason Coker and Jeff Cowan also scored to make it 5-0. Brantford began to chip away in the sixth inning when Jeff Hunt scored on a Terrell Alliman single making it 5-1 Barrie. With one out in the eighth, Lee Delfino drove in Brandon Dailey with a single and Will Richards had an RBI double scoring Nick Weglarz cutting the lead to 5-3 which is as close as Brantford would get.

Adam Hawes shut the door in the final 1 1/3 innings earning the save and keeping the Red Sox bats at bay. Adam Rowe took the win with a brilliant Game 7 effort, going seven innings, striking out six with no walks and allowing just one run on seven hits. Rowe threw 74 of his 110 pitches for strikes.

Casey Howard had a rough start for the Red Sox and took the loss going 3 1/3 innings and allowing five runs. Lee Delfino was the top hitter for Brantford in the losing cause picking up three hits and driving in a run.

The win for the Baycats sets up a title matchup of the top two teams in the regular season. Barrie crushed the rest of the league in the regular season with a record of 30-6, a winning percentage of.833, and finishing seven games in front of the second place London Majors, who went 23-13 in the regular season.

London is seeking their first IBL title in 39 years while the Baycats are looking for their first championship since 2005.
