Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Demonz announced today they have come to terms with the Federal Hockey League’s leading scorer and Demonz fan favorite, forward Ahmed Mahfouz, for the 2014-2015 season. The Demonz have already come to terms with two of their returning starters from their 2013-2014 championship season and are preparing to defend the FHL Commissioner’s Cup this season.
“It was a no brainer on signing Fouz, he plays with his heart on his sleeve and comes to compete every night,” said head coach Trevor Karasiewicz after the signing. “I am expecting another great year from Fouz and I am expecting him to take on a bigger leadership role this season.”
Mahfouz was named the 2013-2014 FHL Forward of the Year and the Most Valuable Player. He led the entire FHL in scoring both during the regular season and in the playoffs. Playing in 45 of the Demonz regular season games he tallied 45 goals and 54 assists. During the playoffs he added 10 goals and 10 assists, including 3 goals and 2 assists in Game 5 of FHL Commissioner’s Cup Finals 9-2 win over the Danbury Whalers in Danbury, Connecticut.
“It’s been a great 2 years in Dayton. I love the city and definitely love the fans,” Mahfouz said when asked why he wanted to return to the Demonz. “We have had great success over the past two seasons and hopefully it continues for many more.” When asked what was the different from last season’s championship team and the 2012-2013 team, he said, “even being down two games, the guys were confident in coming back and we showed it, we were a true team.”
When asked about how he has gelled with Coach Karasiewicz, does that stem from him being a player prior to becoming the Demonz head coach? Mahfouz replied, “Kraz brought what he knew as a player and he turned it into a coach’s perspective, we had fun as line mates and had a good first year with him as our coach. It’s been a lot of fun and I hope to continue it.”
