WENATCHEE, Wash. - All four Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy teams saw the ice this past weekend, with two earning victories - for one of the teams, its victory Saturday was historic.

The Wild 18-and-under team played three games against the RINK Hockey Academy of Kelowna, and jumped ahead 3-0 in the opening minute of the second period on Friday before the visitors made their move with seven consecutive goals on the way to an 8-4 victory. Geon Park had two goals for Wenatchee in that game, with Dylan Crossley notching a goal and two assists. Saturday's game ended with Wenatchee's first-ever victory over RINK, a 3-2 decision in a shootout. Bode Drew scored with a second to go in the second period to tie the game, while Nick Roy had a shorthanded goal at 6:22 of the third for the Academy. Wenatchee scored two goals in the shootout, with Gregor Ermellini scoring the decisive marker. Cameron Kimmerly scored all three goals in the team's 6-3 loss to RINK Sunday morning to close out the weekend.

"The first game, the tide turned and we didn’t execute our systems," said Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy director Troy Mick. "We rebounded Saturday with a hard-fought win, and Sunday we went back to playing as individuals. The bright spot there was Cameron Kimmerly scoring his first CSSHL hat trick, so we know we can play with [RINK]. They’re big, strong and fast, and they’re very well-structured, and we’re right there with them."

The 15O program tallied wins in both of their Saturday contests against the Sno-King program out of Seattle, opening the day with a 5-2 win in the morning before eking out a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon. The 14U and 16U teams finished winless on the weekend, with STAR Hockey Academy earning a win Friday over the 14U team, while the 16U group dropped all three contests against RINK.

This weekend will feature some midweek action for the Academy, as Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton, B.C. hosts Wenatchee's 16U program on Wednesday afternoon. STAR Hockey Academy will host the front end of a home-and-home with Wenatchee on Saturday before the Wild welcome STAR on Sunday afternoon. Shawnigan Lake School stops by Town Toyota Center on Friday evening for an 18U matchup, before the Wild make a brief visit to Delta Hockey Academy on Sunday.

The Academy's 15O group will be active all weekend, though, making an appearance at the CSSHL's Edge School Showcase in Calgary, Alberta. They will play three games as a guest program in the league's U17 AAA division, starting Friday with an afternoon game against fellow guest team St. Mary's High School out of Stockton, California. North Shore Academy will square off with Wenatchee on Saturday afternoon, followed by a Sunday morning game against Pacific Coast Hockey Academy.

"They always have guest teams that come to make their games easier to schedule, so this year the 14U and 15O (teams) will have one showcase weekend," said Mick. "They’re going to play against older competition, but it’s a lot of exposure. They get to play a lot of teams that they normally wouldn’t play, so that’s good for them coaching-wise, to see where they are. The higher competition will be better when they drop back down to their own level of play."

The Wild Hockey Academy’s midweek matchup against OHA starts off the week of competition, with a Wednesday afternoon puck drop set for 2:45 p.m.
