Pilots, Bucs split Fourth of July exhibition

by Lauren Petri

July 4th

In Game 1 of the day, the Anchorage Glacier Pilots bats were hot with Blake Jackson going 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Will Henson going 3 for 4 with one RBI, one double, and one stolen base, and Joey Wright going 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Nathan Barraza, last week’s hitter of the week for the Pilots, pitched five shutout innings with four strikeouts. The Anchorage Bucs’ Curtis Hebert went 2 for 3 with a double, but unfortunately no Buc was able to cross home plate. Game 2 was a little less exciting if you like offense. Bucs’ Isaac Johnson was one out away from a complete game shutout, but after hitting a Pilot to put two runners on with two outs, the Bucs turned to Cameron Crain who finished the game with only one batter. The Bucs’ two runs came from Curtis Hebert and Trenton Burkhalter, who both walked and were brought in by a single from Joey Nerat. For the Pilots, Huck Wathan went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk, but the Bucs defense was on fire. On the other hand, these games don’t count against the official records, so the Bucs remain in first place, and the Pilots remain at .500.

Game 1 Final Score: Anchorage Glacier Pilots 9, Anchorage Bucs 0

Game 2 Final Score: Anchorage Bucs 2, Anchorage Glacier Pilots 0
