Fremont – The Fremont Moo continued to protect their homefield, moving to 8-0 this season at historic Moller Field as they finished off a three-game sweep of the Pierre Trappers with a 6-3 victory Sunday night. This was the closest of the three matchups with the Trappers, as Fremont had won the first two by nine runs each.

The Moo (14-3) wasted no time taking control of the game. With one out in the bottom of the first, Darien Morphew reached on an error by the pitcher. Two batters later, Brock Reller hammered an RBI double to right, scoring Morphew to give the Moo the lead. In the bottom of the second, Auggie Rasmussen continued a red-hot weekend by clocking a leadoff homer to right to double Fremont’s lead.

Then in the third, Luke White lined a one-out single off the Moller Monster in left. Rasmussen followed with a single to right. After Peyton Leeper loaded the bases with a single to right, Ryne Hays hit a sacrifice fly to left-center that scored White and made it 3-0, Moo.

Pierre (6-9) scored one in the fourth, but in the fifth, Fremont answered, as Rasmussen reached on a fielder’s choice, moved to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch, advancing the Moo’s lead to 4-1. The Trappers tallied one in the sixth, but in the bottom of the seventh, Fremont responded. Reller drew a leadoff walk, then White hammered a two-run homer to left to push the Moo lead to 6-2. Pierre scored one in the eighth but drew no closer.

Dawson Linder (3-0) earned the win for the Moo, allowing just one unearned run in five innings while striking out eight. Brendon Jones worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his first save of the season. Fremont’s offense was led by Rasmussen, who was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double for the second straight night. White added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and his second home run of the year.

Now winners of 14 of their last 16 games, the Moo will take Monday off before facing Hastings Tuesday at 7:05 at historic Moller Field. It’s youth baseball and softball night, with kids wearing their baseball and softball uniforms receiving a free general admission ticket.
