RANGERS DOUBLE DOWN ON DRAWS

Date:  Source: OHA Glanbrook Rangers

GLANBROOK (Jan. 15) --  The combined efforts of Noah Matteson and Matt Lukic (pictured) helped the Glanbrook Rangers salvage a 4-4 tie with the Hagersville Hawks.

Matteson scored the tying goal -- his 26th of the season and second of the game --  at 15:55 of the third period and Lukic made 46 saves in a shooting gallery contest in which both sides fired a combined total of 96 shots, 50 for Hagersville and 46 for the Rangers.

After going more than two years without a tie game, the Rangers earned draws in consecutive matches (after a 2-2 result against Hespeler).  The point earned keeps the Rangers in the thick of what has now become a three-team duel for first place in the South Bloomfield Division between Glanbrook, Hagersville and the Grimsby Peach Kings.  Glanbrook currently sits one point behind Hagersville and Grimsby, who are tied at the top of the table with 54 points apiece.

The game was a back-and-forth affair as the Hawks and Rangers traded goals and entered the third period all square at 2-2.  Matt Wright and Matteson had Glanbrook's goals, while Sandy Porter and Matt Weston replied for Hagersville.  Dan Rocco's 10th goal of the season briefly gave Glanbrook the edge early in the third period, but Hagersville responded with a pair of goals from Weston and Ralph Taggart to go up 4-3.

With Lukic holding the fort under a withering bombardment (38 shots over the final 47 minutes), Matteson struck for the equalizer and the teams skated through a scoreless overtime session.

NOTES: Two new faces on the Rangers, added at the OHA roster deadline on January 10, are very familiar to the fans.  Veteran defencemen Dawson Shackelton and Jamie Caruso have rejoined the team for the final playoff push.  Caruso played three previous season for the Rangers, and Shackelton split his time over the past two years between Glanbrook and the Elmira Sugar Kings of the GOJHL.  Each of them contributed an assist against Hagersville ... Winger Connor McQuhae failed to register a point, ending his eight-game streak ... Lukic's .938 save percentage is tied for fourth-best in the PJHL among goalies who have appeared in more than 10 games.  ... Rangers' leading scorer Noah Bollert sat out the match with a suspension.
