GRIMSBY (Dec. 14) -- The Glanbrook Rangers vaulted into top spot in the South Bloomfield Division as they scored a 1-0 triumph over their arch-rivals, the Grimsby Peach Kings. They lead the Peach Kings by one point (42-41) while Grimsby holds one game in hand on the Rangers.

Connor McQuhae's 10th goal of the season at 16:55 of the second period was the only goal in the tightly-fought contest in which the Rangers fired 29 shots at Grimsby goalie Riley Maskell, who was outduelled by Glanbrook netminder Matt Lukic (pictured).   Lukic turned aside 27 shots to earn his first shutout of the season and his division-leading 13th win.  He also boasts a tidy 1.82 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.

Defence has been the hallmark of the Rangers lately.   After struggling on the back end through the early stages of the season, Glanbrook has allowed a mere six goals over their current six-game winning streak,  including shutouts of  Grimsby and Hagersville.

The Rangers also improved their season record against the Peach Kings to 2-3.  The perennial division challengers will face each other once more, on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Glanbrook.

NOTES: Defenceman Darcy Redwood assisted on McQuhae's goal, his third assist in two games since joining the Rangers.
