NIAGARA FALLS (Dec. 5) -- The Glanbrook Rangers grabbed a share of the top spot in the Bloomfield Division as they doubled up on the Niagara RiverHawks with a 4-2 triumph. The win brought the Rangers even with the Grimsby Peach Kings each team has 38 points) and while the Peach Kings hold three games in hand, the result shows that Glanbrook is a legitimate challenger for the division crown.
Matt Wright opened the scoring for the Rangers with his fourth goal at 11:04 of the first period. Niagara's Jayden Engberts equalized before the first frame was over, but Sean Golebiowski, Dan Rocco and Noah Baltzer (pictured) strung together three goals by the middle of the second period to open up a comfortable 4-1 margin.
Aiden Reid retaliated on a RiverHawks power play at 14:15 of the second and the teams skated through a scoreless third period as Glanbrook racked up their fourth consecutive victory, and the 16th in their last 19 games. Matt Lukic made 27 saves to earn his 12th win of the campaign, while the Rangers fired 41 shots at Niagara goalie Mathew Boere, an impressive total, made even more remarkable by the fact that Glanbrook was playing without the services of six regulars (defencemen Erik Nelson and Lyall Shaw, and forwards Sandy Ciccarelli, Matthew Hogan, Harrison Farrugia and Michael Dittrich).
Rangers captain Noah Matteson, however, returned to the lineup after a two-game absence with an injury.
