GLANBROOK (Nov. 29) -- Noah Bollert (pictured) recorded his second hat trick and sixth multi-goal game of the season to pace the Glanbrook Rangers to a 6-2 win over the Niagara RiverHawks.
The 20-year-old sniper boosted his PJHL-leading goal total to 27 (in 25 games), widening the gap on runner-up Jake Luke of the Norwich Merchants to three goals. Bollert, whose offensive prowess earned him Bloomfield Division forward of the month honours for Sept. / Oct., also added an assist to move into third spot in the PJHL overall scoring race with 45 points, six behind Ryan Hopkins of Mt. Brydges Bulldogs.
With the victory, the Rangers solidified their hold on second place in the Bloomfield Division, moving just a point behind the front-running Grimsby Peach Kings, and three ahead of the Hagersville Hawks (who, however, hold four games in hand on Glanbrook).
The Rangers are the top offensive team in their division, thanks largely to the explosiveness of Bollert and team captain Noah Matteson (19 goals). But with Matteson sidelined indefinitely with a lower body injury, it has fallen to other players to pick up the slack, which is precisely what has happened in their last two games (the previous being a 9-1 rout of Dunnville).
Connor McQuhae, a prolific scorer last season with 38 goals, has seen his production fall off this year, but has started to show signs he might be finding the range again. The veteran winger kicked off the scoring against Niagara with his ninth goal of the season at the 8:17 mark of the first period.
Dan Rocco contributed his fifth goal of the campaign on a power play at 14:16 of the second and, after Niagara's Domenic Pascente narrowed the margin to 2-1 at 16:38, Glanbrook's Harrison Farrugia retaliated just 15 seconds later with his fifth of the season. Then Bollert took over, adding goals at 19:12 of the second period, then 0:53 and 12:04 of the third, wrapped around a power-play goal by Niagara's Eric Lowe.
Also putting a charge in the attack was winger Cooper Hood, who returned to the lineup after sitting out against Dunnville, and chipping in with four assists. Mitchell Robinson, making his first start in five games, made 24 saves to notch his sixth victory of the season.
