Ypsilanti, MI ~ After coming out of the gate slow Friday night and suffering an embarrassing loss, the Eagles bounced back Saturday night with a big win over GLCHL rival and top 20 Ranked Oakland University. The team hungry for a win seemed to be skating with a purpose, "We knew we had to be better and play our system!" Head Coach Joe Allen stated; and they clearly executed, taking a 1-0 lead in the second period with a power play goal from Forward Tim Conlin. Conlin tipped a point shot from Defenseman David Bogart which put the Eagles on top and marked Conlin's 4th goal on the season. Taking the lead into the final period, the Oakland skaters came out strong and eventually tied the game late in the 3rd with a goal from OU forward Greg Meuser. The teams battled but ended 1-1 after 60 minutes and headed into overtime, with both teams getting scoring opportunities, Defenseman Adam Olson decided he had enough, on the back check intercepting an Oakland pass in the defensive zone, he quickly transitioned carrying the puck down the ice for an offensive push. Fighting off defenders, Olson protected the puck and drove to the net, with a back hand shot over the shoulder beating Oakland goaltender Alex Moustakis top shelf to win the game for the Eagles! Eagles Goaltender Aaron Callan took home the Player of the Game honors as he made 50 saves in the Eagles victory.
From the goal scorers:
His thought's on the weekend "I thought Friday was huge let down and we didn't want that to happen again so we came back Saturday as a team hungry for a win. Everybody played great tonight and thats what we need in order to be successful." Olson stated
"I feel that tonight's game we played a full 60 minute hockey game for one of the first times of the year. I think another important factor to winning was taking little to no penalties and that going to be a big difference maker throughout the rest of the season. Our team is finally getting some solid chemistry together on and off the ice and hopefully there will be more wins to come." Conlin stated
With Saturday's win, the team moves to 3-8 on the year, the team faces off this weekend as they host Kent State University Friday night at the Cube.
