WANTED - Head Coach
Date: Jun 30, 2021
GLANBROOK (Sept. 25) -- Noah Matteson and Noah Bollert each scored a pair of goals to lead the Glanbrook Rangers to a 5-1 triumph over the Port Dover Sailors. It was the second straight win for the Rangers, and a solid team effort.
"This was a product of the work we've been putting in," said coach Mike Christian. "We're seeing a bit more improvement every game."
The Rangers generally held the momentum throughout the first period, outshooting the Sailors 13-3, but were unable to convert on several scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Glanbrook goalie Matt Lukic made key saves on a couple of Port Dover threats to maintain the status quo.
Glanbrook held firm early in the second, killing off a Port Dover two-man advantage, until Matteson broke the stalemate at 3:54 with a bullet shot that beat Sailors' goalie Andrew Hawkins high to the glove side. Bollert extended the lead to 2-0 at 9:00. The Rangers delivered the knockout blow as Matteson and Bollert struck again just 14 seconds apart at 16:04 and 16:18.
The final frame was a sluggish and often confusing mess as frustrations in the physical contest boiled over, resulting in a parade of penalties and flow-killing delays as calls were sorted out. The Sailors took advantage of a man advantage to spoil Lukic's shutout bid as Ashton Mikasko scored at 4:35. But defenceman Brennan Ireland retaliated with Glanbrook on the power play at 13:00 to complete the scoring. The Rangers were 1-for-8 on the power play, while Port Dover was 1-for-9.
NOTES: Lukic made 24 saves to record his second victory of the campaign ... Matteson, Connor McQuhae and Dallas Nadasdi each contributed a pair of assists for the Rangers ... Bollert's two goals gave him a team-leading eight for the season, and he added an assist to boost his points total to 13.
