Team GTHL Comes out Strong in Third, Secures Second Win of OHL Gold Cup

Kitchener, Ont. – A four goal third period for Team GTHL Red gave them their second win of the OHL Gold Cup at Activa Sportsplex  in Kitchener.  

Alex Christopoulos scored the first goal of the game for GTHL Red from Edward Moskowitz, Chandler Romeo. GTHL Red. Luca Del Bel Belluz followed up just two minutes later from Jesse Fishman, Deven Nagra. Thomas Johnston helped OMHA Black get on the board from Ryan Winterton, Brenden Sirizzotti. And Kaleb Nelson stripped the puck while shorthanded, and tied it all up 11 seconds before the buzzer.

Now in the second period Paul Christopoulos helped team GTHL Red take back the lead from Marc Boudreau. Kaleb Nelson answered back shortly after unassisted for OMHA Black. Jack Beck then scored for GTHL Red to take back the lead from Wyatt Johnston.

Thomas Johnston scored from Brenden Sirizzotti, Ryan Winterton to tie it back up and then less and a minute later, scored again unassisted for OMHA Black to take the lead before the buzzer.

Despite the game being back and forth through the first two periods, the last belonged to GTHL Red. The team scored four goals in the third period to take the win.

Marc Boudreau tied it up from Brandt Clarke, Shane Wright. Shortly after, Boudreau scored another from Chandler Romeo to take the lead. Shane Wright scored an insurance goal from Josh Bloom, and an empty netter before the final whistle.

Shots were 48 to 27 in favour of GTHL Red.

Players of the game were Thomas Johnston for Team OMHA Black and Marc Boudreau for Team GTHL Red.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
