Ypsilanti, MI ~ Facing another ranked opponent the Eagles looked to bounce back and get their season turned around. Friday night they traveled to Rochester (MI) to face-off against Oakland University (#24). The Eagles struck first when Adam Olson fed a pass to breaking Austin Turner, Turner broke in the zone coming down the left side and fired the puck passed OU’s goaltender Ian Dvorak. The boys fed off the energy and controlled the pace of the play. Minutes later Hunter Soden forced a turnover, Josh Albring picked up the puck and fed linemate Chas Distelrath, Distelrath buried the puck and Dvorak didn’t stand a chance, the Eagles went up 2-0 going into the 2nd period. The Golden Grizzlies came out in the 2nd ready to play; the pace was matched, with both teams getting opportunities. The Eagles got a powerplay and freshman Defenseman Eddie Cannon took full advantage netting his first collegiate goal with a feed from Jared Pardoski. The Eagles went up 3-0, but with a penalty putting them down, they gave up a late 2nd period goal to OU. In the 3rd period Goaltender Kevin O’Shea took over making 11 saves and finishing the night with 25 saves on 26 shots in the 3-1 victory.
Saturday, the Eagles hosted the Golden Grizzlies at the Cube and looked to finish the series sweep. In the 1st period both teams had scoring chances but Oakland controlled the pace, out shooting the Eagles 16-9; the teams ended the first 0-0. Entering the 2nd period the Eagles bounced back as Josh Davenport entered OU’s zone cutting to middle dropping the puck to Austin Turner who skated through an open outside lane finding Jack Miller breaking to the net who scored a beauty of a goal to put the Eagles on the board 1-0. Oakland answered the call by netting a goal and tying the game 1-1. Minutes later Hunter Soden found Jared Pardoski in the front of the net who deked goalie Josh Pack and found the back of the net putting the Eagles back on top 2-1. In the 3rd period, Dustin Foran sealed the deal by netting a goal from a rebound shot that came from Jack Miller, the golden grizzlies once again out shot the Eagles but Goaltender Kevin O’Shea stood his ground and made 36 saves on 37 shots. The Eagles are back in action Fri, Nov 9th as they travel to Kent State University to face-off against the Golden Flashes.
