Kitchener, Ont. – After going undefeated throughout the tournament Team GTHL Blue has won the 2018 OHL Gold Cup in an 8-2 game against Team GTHL Red at Activa Sportsplex in Kitchener, Ontario.
During a back and forth five goal first period, GTHL Blue ended the period on top.
Ryan O Rourke scored first for Team GTHL Red, on the power play from Jean-Luc Foudy. Team GTHL Blue answered back, a goal by Dylan Robinson from Jake Uberti, Thomas Haynes. Taking their first lead, Stephan Halliday scored unassisted on the power play for Team GTHL Blue.
Team GTHL Red then tied it up, thanks to Cole Perfetti from Jean-Luc Foudy.
Before the buzzer, William Cuylle knocked it home for Team GTHL Blue, from Stephan Halliday.
Team GTHL Blue extended their lead in the second, first by Kyle Jackson from Davis Young, Owen Porter, the second by William Cuylle, short-handed and unassisted.
And in the final frame, Team GTHL Blue scored three more. First by Dylan Robinson from Kyle Jackson, Thomas Haynes, the second - Jake Uberti on the power play, from Michael Bianconi. And the final goal of the frame by Liam Babcock, from Stephan Halliday.
This is the fifth time Team GTHL Blue has won the OHL Gold Cup.
Players of the game were Cole Perfetti for Team GTHL Red and Stephan Halliday for Team GTHL Blue.

“We all came together as a team and got the job done,” said Stephan Halliday for Team GTHL Blue on their win.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
