Indiana Tech moved back into first place in the NAIA Division standings with a road sweep in St. Louis, Mo at Lindenwood-Belleville. The Warriors earned two comeback wins on the weekend, with a 7-3 victory on Friday night and 4-3 OT win on Saturday evening.
Lindenwood-Belleville opened the scoring on Friday night when Dylan Bowerman scored his first goal of the season off an assist by Billy Denis at the 6:15 mark while on the powerplay. At the 11:36 mark, the Lynx increased their advantage to 2-0 when Brady Bruneau scored his fourth of the campaign with the assist awarded to Kyle Bishop. The Warriors would respond quickly though, with Brian Skillicorn putting the visitors on the scoreboard at 12:46 in the first while Jace Childs knotted the game up at 2-2 at 14:30.
"We didn't have the start we wanted, but did recover well," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "I think this game was the most physicality we've seen in a while and the guys responded the way we hoped."
Childs would give Tech the lead just 58 seconds into the second period to kick-start a three-goal period for the Orange and Black as they took a 5-2 lead into the second intermission. Blake Cudmore and Jimmie Kotilainen would score Tech's fourth and fifth goals, respectively.
During the final frame, Lindenwood-Belleville cut the Indiana Tech lead to 5-3 thanks to a Kyle Diamond goal at the 4:45 mark. Assists on the play were handed out to Daniel Hussey and Daniel Skoglund.
Unfortunately, the Warriors added a pair of insurance tallies during a penalty-filled third period when Zach Bennett would restore the Warriors three-goal lead just 41 seconds later while Alex Gregorich capped the scoring at 14:03 to give Tech a 7-3 win.
John Slavik made 29 saves in net for Tech while Harley White stopped 24 of 30 shots in goal for the Lynx.
On Saturday afternoon, the Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team won its sixth game in a row on Saturday afternoon as they defeated NAIA Division foe Lindenwood-Belleville, 4-3, in overtime at the St. Louis iceZone.
In the first period, Lindenwood-Belleville opened the scoring at the 2:58 mark when Brady Bruneau scored his fifth of the season with the assists coming from Billy Denis and Kyle Diamond. The Lynx doubled their advantage at 13:00 when Daniel Hussey scored his 10th goal of the campaign off an assist from Mikael Lengmo and Tyler Weber.
"They came out hard again but we were able to keep our composure and battle back," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "Larry (Zach Larson) made some huge saves in net, especially in overtime to give us a chance to win. I was really happy with our overall poise as a team today."
In the second stanza, Indiana Tech cut the Lindenwood-Belleville lead in half with a powerplay goal from Zach Bennett at the 12:26 mark. The Warriors then picked up a pair of goals 39 seconds apart midway through the third period from Jarrett Pfeiffer and Jimmie Kotilainen to take a 3-2 lead.
