Foxboro, MA- Gunnar Fontaine and Sam Colangelo each scored a pair of goals to lead the Little Bruins to a 6-2 victory over the South Shore Kings and punch their ticket to next weekend’s Massachusetts State 18U Tournament.
Fontaine gave the Bruins the lead when he took a cross-ice pass from Braden Doyle and sent it back-door into the net with 10:44 to go in the opening period.
Quinn McCarthy tied the game with five minutes on the clock when he skated down the left wing and faked passing to the trailing forward before ripping a shot from the left circle. Nick Pennucci and Jonah Nash assisted on the play.
The tie held until Colangelo took a pass from Devin Tongue and jammed it in with 5:21 to go in the second.
One minute later, Tongue scored with an assist from Kyle Kazeroid to give the Little Bruins a 3-1 lead.
Early in the third period, Fontaine nabbed his second of the game when he picked up a loose puck, cut across the slot, and shot it home from the left circle.
Mike Kennedy stretched the lead to four with 7:12 on the clock with a power play goal from John Copeland and Hunter Brackett.
South Shore got one back with 3:46 to go when Alex Brinkley picked the pocket of a Bruin and scored after deking out the goalie, but Colangelo iced the game with an empty net goal from Blake Coleman with 1:20 to play.
The win gives the Little Bruins the final qualifying spot for the Massachusetts Selects League in the 18U State Tournament and will learn of their placement in the coming week
