WELCOME TO THE 2017 BANTAM NATIONALS
Sunday, July 30th marked the start of the 2017 Bantam Nationals Tournament as athletes, coaches, officials and fans from across Canada I came to Saskatoon for the annual tournament. With eight teams from across the country, it is sure to be an action packed week. This tournament hosts some of the most competitive minor box lacrosse being played in Canada today. Buckle up!
Game 1: British Columbia vs Nova Scotia
BC jumped to an early lead with 3 goals in the first period. In the second period is was BC who would put another 2 goals on the board and lead the game 5-0 before Nova Scotia was able to score their first and only goal of the game BC dominated the game, winning 10 - 1 over Nova Scotia. Props to Nova Scotia for never giving up, and playing hard even when down early.
Game 2: Alberta vs Manitoba
Manitoba has a young club and worked hard; but this game was a tough battle for them, against the fast powerhouse of Alberta. Alberta put the pedal to floor in this game and won 20-1 over the young Manitoba squad.
Game 3: Quebec vs Saskatchewan
The hometown favorites of Saskatchewan started the game with the first goal. However, the party was cut short as Quebec came right back and tied the game. The two teams exchanged 2 more goals each before Saskatchewan went on a scoring run. Quebec never gave up and fought back in the game before eventually hitting the post in the last seconds of the third period, which would have tied the game. Saskatchewan hangs on for the win 6-5 over Quebec.
Game 4: First Nations vs Ontario
Kinsmen Arena was buzzing for this game with a full house as people were anticipating the spotlight game of the day. Ontario came out early and didn’t let off until the final buzzer. Ontario showed their dominance and set the tone winning the game 21-3 over First Nations.
Game 5: Nova Scotia vs Manitoba
Both teams came out to play in their second game of the day. This was a crazy, hard fought battle with neither team giving an inch. Both teams worked until the final buzzer with Nova Scotia coming out on top 7-1 over Manitoba.
Game 6: Alberta vs Saskatchewan
Alberta definitely ate their Wheaties before this game. They came out, took control and never looked back as they dominated Saskatchewan with a final score of 8-1.
Game 7: Quebec vs First Nations
Second last game of Day one was a shooting clinic for the First Nations as they showed their fine ability to score at will. First Nations easily beat Quebec with a final score of 10-1.
Game 8: British Columbia vs Ontario
In the final game of the day Ontario once again came out to play; they totally dominated the game with loose balls, forcing plays and controlling every aspect of this one, including the score. British Columbia fell to Ontario with a final score of 14-1.
