Cascades show strong in Tucson!

Your Fraser Valley Cascades Baseball Team has enjoyed a great trip down South at the Tucson Invitational Baseball tournament. A massive tournament with teams coming from all over the United States.

The Cascades started play last Sunday and finished up Friday with a double header combining for a 7-2 record throughout the week. Their last day of competition they lost a tough game to a NAIA team, Valley City, 12-6. Head Coach Shawn Corness said “the boys competed very well against a NAIA school before a half hour turnaround where they played a great game and beat Lake Shore 9-4.” That final game saw strong pitching from Evan Peterson and John Lipp. Tied in the 6th 4-4 the Cascades had hits from the first two hitters, and then a great sac bunt by Ryan West moved them to 2nd and 3rd. Caelan Sampson then drove a line drive base hit to score both runners to put us up 6-4, they added a couple more to make it 8-4. In the last inning Brennan Hegel put the icing on it with a Monmouth 480 foot homer run!

Another highlight game for the team down in Arizona was during a mid-week game. The Cascades entered the last inning down 13-6. With some strong batting the players chipped away at the seven run deficit then saw your Cascades get a thrilling walk off home run and come out with the win 14-13.

Overall, the team faced some tough competition while away and are very happy with their showing. This is their preseason warm up and a chance to work all the kinks out before their home opener next weekend on March 25th. Head Coach Shawn Corness has commented “the boys are now finished with an excellent record of 7-2 against very good competition from all over the US, I am very proud of our work ethic and the way we competed all week.”

Mark your calendars as the Cascades regular season opens next weekend on March 25th with 4 home games, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. The team plays out of Fairfield Island Park in Chilliwack.

See you all at the Ball Park!
