Odessa, TX (August 19, 2016) – The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that winger Ryan MacKellar has been named the clubs captain for the 2016-17 season, his final year of junior hockey.

Head coach Greg Gatto never named a captain in 2015-16, but instead rolled with four assistant captains (Derek Brown, Danny Kiraly, Gray Marr and Drew McLean). MacKellar, 20, becomes the first Jacks' captain since Chad Guderian, who held the position from 2013-15.

In two full years in Odessa, MacKellar (5-10/190) has appeared in 111 games while scoring 11 goals, 23 assists and 84 penalty minutes (PIM).

“We expect Ryan to be a huge leader for us this season,” said Gatto. “I trust that he can convey my message and hold his teammates accountable. We also expect him (MacKellar) to make a big offensive leap and consistently contribute in that zone.”

The Jacks have yet to finalize their opening day roster but will begin pre-season camp at the Music City Mall starting Monday, August 29 at 10 a.m. before playing an exhibition contest in Amarillo on September 3.

The Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their 20th season at Amarillo on September 10 and play their home opener agains the t Lone Star Brahmas at Ector County Coliseum on October 27.
