When Ben Ramberg struck out Dusty Stroup for the final out Saturday to give the Junction City Brigade the Cowdin Cup championship, a bit of a rush came over me.

The players dogpiled each other on the mound, the crowd roared — I’d never seen anything like it. At least, not in person. 

Sure, I’ve covered big games — K-State’s 2015 upset of KU in basketball, for instance — but this was different.

For one thing, it was a championship. In my two short years as a sports beat writer, no team I’ve covered has won one.
