Sunday Games:
Peak Canada vs. Squad Up – This was an intense game, as both teams had their defense locked down,
however their offense stood out even more. Peak dominated in the first half, being effective in the
paint, and drawing fouls on attacks. They were leading by double digits with only 5 minutes left in the
first period, forcing Squad Up to take a timeout to re-evaluate. The timeout proved necessary for Squad
as they tightened their defense, specifically on Peak’s #1-Lewis, who led the scoreboard with an
impressive stat line of 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Squad’s #3-Eduful limited
#1-Lewis and forced him to take contested shots. #3-Eduful had a team-high 22 points, grabbed 9
boards, and 9 steals. His effort, along with that of #45-Munier’s – 20 points & 4 rebounds – and #23-
Spalding’s – 18 points, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, & 6 rebounds – helped Squad rally back to
reduce the gap, ending the first half at 41-35 Peak lead. The second half opened up with 2 quick field
goals by Squad, but #1-Lewis answered with a 3. Peak had high team cohesion, and probably the best
communication between players on the court out of all the observed teams. Peak guard #34-Jerome,
like #1-Lewis, is excellent off the dribble, with good court vision, good shooting, and a good finisher at
the rim – he finished with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The rest of their starters include sharp-shooter
#6-Iggy, who finished with 13 points & 7 rebounds, and #22-Josh & #33-Dib who set good screens and
provide needed rim protection. Squad’s defense was on point, forcing key turnovers, and grabbing
offensive boards in the second half of the second period, leading to a run that gave them an 11 point
lead with 5 minutes left. Peak made a comeback, as #6-Iggy stole the ball and dished it to #34-Jerome
for an and-1 that amped the team up, making it a 4 point game with 1:30 left on the clock.
Unfortunately for Peak, Squad was highly effective at grabbing those offensive boards, and the gap was
never closed. The game ended with Squad running down the final seconds and winning 72-68.
N.W. vs. Ssauga – This would have been an exciting game to catch, but N.W. had to forfeit due to
missing players.
West Bridge vs. Monarchs – Both teams opened the game with 3’s. Monarchs showed a high rate of
passes, creating good ball movement and isolation plays. Monarch #12-Alilovic continues to effectively
offensively rebound, giving his team plenty of second chance points – he finished with 13 points & 8
rebounds. Monarchs led practically the entire game. They were up 6 at halftime. Upon entering the
second half, West seemed to have tightened their defense, but only managed to maintain the
discrepancy rather than increase it. Monarchs’ offense was clearly dominant, #32-JO leading the charge
with 17 points, despite 4 West players also tallying double digit points (#32-Hall, #1-Green, #11-
Sofarsohall, and #5-Roberts). Monarchs played good defense as well, forcing turnovers and finishing at
the other end. Their win was pretty much in the bag after #51-Lemos hit a dagger 3-pointer, giving them
a 10-point lead with just under 2 minutes to go. West had no choice but to intentionally foul, and force
some 3-point jumpers. Monarchs took the W, 59-50.
Hoyas vs. Spurs – This was another exciting fast-paced game. Hoyas had great team passing and
excellent team cohesion, with their star player #1-T.V 905 leading the scoreboard with 25 points on 9-of-
14 shooting (and arguably the best true PG in the league). Spurs #12-St. Jean was hot at the 3-point line,
hitting 2 in the opening minutes (and totaling 13 points in the game). Hoyas were looking good despite
#12-O. Passley being in foul trouble and not contributing the usual. Hoyas #5-Wallace gets an and-1 off a
smooth dish in the paint, and follows it with a jumper from downtown, giving them a 10-point lead mid-
way through the first half. Spurs #32-Jelic showed good defensive skills (and contributed 10 points), but
the team’s offense consisted of too many outside shots, not utilizing their bigger size in the paint. Hoyas
led 44-29 at the half. Spurs #14-Curic enters second half with a pump fake, getting his defender out of
the way, and driving into the lane for a grand slam – although his team was still down 17, he finished
with 22 points shooting 8-of-14. Hoyas big man #15-D.Passley is very effective at the rim; he added 12
points, while #32-Fadayel and #5-Wallace poured in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Hoyas win with a
blowout 20 points.
Prestige World Wide vs. City – Prestige were forced to forfeit the game due to an insufficient number of
players.
Huskies vs. Black Mambas – Both these teams have very capable and skilled players. Huskies #24-
Campbell continues to show high efficiency on both ends of the floor, and has good court vision – he
finished with 17 points. It was Mambas’ #55-Pierre who stole the show: he had 22 points on 8-of-10
shooting and was hot on offense from the start, picking up 2 and-1s in a matter of minutes. Mambas
dominated the first half; 3-pointers from #55-Pierre, #1-Provo, and #13-Karimi gave them a 15 point
lead at halftime. #12-Gyamfi (with 11 points), #1-Provo (with 6 points), and #14-Carruthers (with 5
points) were all excellent rim protectors. Huskies buckled down their defence in the second half and
made small rallies (especially with the help of #7-El Sadig who effectively attacked the rim and finished
with 18 points), that began to close the gap, but never quite made it close enough. One play where #24-
Campbell snatched the ball and dished it to #13-Skoko who travelled before banking a 3-pointer could
have been a game changer, however it did not count and Mambas continued to extend their lead.
Huskies were getting frustrated; nothing was going in for them when it mattered most. #7-El Sadig
finally hits a 3 at the buzzer, but the game ultimately ended with a Mamba win of 68-59.
Woes vs. North – Coming off a blowout win the previous night, North showed up to play the youngest
team in the league with only 1 bench player, and no MVP Paul Blake. Nonetheless, they seemed to have
control of the game, with #2-Taylor going off with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting, and all 3 of #0-Cash,
#9-Chavarro, and #23-Williams with double digit scores. North led by 3 at the half, but things would quickly
turn around for Woes in the second half, as #7-Kacardio hits 4 back-to-back 3s! The crowd was loving it!
All Woe starters contributed double digit points, and #0-Omar grabbed several offensive boards for
second chance plays and put backs, and dished 7 assists. This young Woe team has very good
communication, executing flawless plays in the paint, dishes behind the back, you name it! Woes win
with a blowout; 92-72.
Game #3 for everyone goes down this Saturday, June 13th. Spread the word!
