Hawkesbury uses shootout to best Ottawa, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Ottawa Senators in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout.

Hawkesbury saw a four-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Hawks made the score 5-1 on a goal by Curtis Colbary at 10:54 in the third period. Ottawa evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Joey Champigny at 18:04 in the third period.

Hawkesbury's offense rang up 37 shots on the Senators' net. The Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Hawkesbury has scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Hawks were helped by Carl Faucher, who registered three goals. Zach Car also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Yanik Laliberte, who had three and Nicolas Vlahos, Francis Landers, Hugo Petit, CJ Stubbs, and Gunner Rivers, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa kept Hawkesbury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Rivers made 39 saves on 44 shots.

The Senators were led by Michael Evelyn, who grabbed one goal and three assists. Evelyn scored 11:24 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Hawkesbury. Hunter Racine provided the assist. Ottawa additionally got points from Zackary Rheaume, who also had one goal and one assist and Racine, who also finished with two goals and one assist. More assists for Ottawa came via Deric Boudreau, who had two and Justin Charbonneau and Geoffrey Lawson, who contributed one each.

The Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Ottawa's Ian Andriano stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Senators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
