Last year Ward played in 27 games, with a total of 2 goals, and 29 assists for 31 points in total, earning her the rank of #1 defense points leader. During the Clarkson Cup Championship series, Ward scored 4 points, and was tied with a Stars’ teammate as the #2 defensive scorer for the series.
Ward has established herself as one of Canada’s stars on the blue line playing for the Canadian U22 team, the 2009 and 2012 Women’s World Championship teams and the 2010 Olympic gold medal winning team. She is a member of the Triple Gold Club (the accomplishment is not yet officially recognized by the IIHF for women), as one of only a few women to win the Clarkson Cup, a gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games, and gold at the IIHF women's world hockey championships.
At McGill, Ward set a QSSF record for points by a defenseman, and in 2007 became the first Martlet to earn the CIS rookie-of-the-year honour since the inception of the award in 2000-01. She set new McGill single-season marks for most goals, assists and points in her varsity debut, finishing second among CIS defensemen with 22 points despite playing in only 16 conference games. She was a three time CIS All-Canadian Defender and in 2009 won the CIS Women’s Hockey Championships MVP award. Ward also played one season in the NCAA as a Boston University Terrier, and was a 2011 Patty Kazmaier Award Nominee, Second Team All-American, NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament team member, and a New England Women's Division I All-Star selection.
