Cornwall falls to Nepean after surprising comebackEd Lumley Arena Thu, Oct 05, 2006 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Cornwall Colts, 4-3. Nepean let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Raiders took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Tyler Hinds at 2:07 in the third period. Nepean went down 2-0 after Cornwall's Joey Derochie put the puck home short handed at 7:10 in the first period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a goal by Adam Donovan at 5:14 in the third, the Raiders got the game-winner from Andrew Mather at 8:32 in the third period. Nepean's penalty kill excelled, as the Raiders gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:30 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Nepean stifled the Colts' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Raiders kept Cornwall's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marco Raimondo made 27 saves on 31 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Nepean additionally got points from Jamie Cavanagh, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Julien Demers as well. In addition, Nepean received assists from Neil Clarke, Damian Cross, Chris Murphy, and Emmond Bell, who contributed one a piece. The Colts excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Cornwall forced Nepean goalie Zach Grasley to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Mark Williams, who had two and Kyle Taylor and Eric Lemire, who each chipped in one. The Raiders' Grasley stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Nepean ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stephen Miles was ejected from the game. The Colts ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Cornwall, Kyle Tetreault was ejected from the game.
