Pensacola hangs on, beats Huntsville 3-1

Paul Rodrigues scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers held off the challenges of the Huntsville Havoc in a tough 3-1 win.

Rodrigues provided Pensacola with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:15 into the first period. Stephen Buco picked up the assist.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Huntsville faces elimination next time out.

The Ice Flyers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 23 penalty minutes.

Pensacola was led by Charlie Adams, who tallied one goal. Adams scored 9:43 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. Brandon Zurn assisted on the tally.

The Ice Flyers forced the Havoc goalie Ryan de Melo to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Pensacola also got points from Buco, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Josh Cousineau, Jeremy Gates, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville stifled Pensacola's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Havoc were led by John Lidgett, who scored the team's only goal. Lidgett scored on the power play 14:18 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Banfield was whistled for high sticking. Stuart Stefan picked up the assist.

Matt Zenzola rejected 20 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. De Melo recorded 48 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-10 on the power play.
