Stratford pulls away in second, rolls over Waterloo, 8-3Allman Arena Mon, Apr 04, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stratford Cullitons scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Waterloo Siskins and clinch an 8-3 win. The win by Stratford broke a deadlock and gave the Cullitons a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Stratford got the win behind a great game by Hayden Broomhead, who had two goals and two assists. Broomhead scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:25 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Stratford. The Cullitons had gotten the advantage when Waterloo's Jared Lindsay was sent off for hooking. Joe Leahy provided the assist. Broomhead's next tally on the power play made the score 8-3 Stratford with 15:54 left in the third period. Stratford had gained a power play chance when Joshua Slegers was whistled for high sticking. Jared Nash assisted on the tally. The Cullitons forced the Siskins' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 38 shots and forcing 30 saves. Mitchell Datz made 20 stops and Bailey DeGasperis made 10. Stratford's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Waterloo's power play unit. Stratford also got points from Anthony Kotsovos, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nash, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Zander Pryor, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Zach Van Louwe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Jack Scanlan and Tanner Hertel, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stratford came via Brock Heshka, Dylan Lebold, Maverick Petrie, Tyson Baker, and Josh Miller, who contributed one each. The Siskins' offense rang up 42 shots on the Cullitons' net. Waterloo was led by Conner Jean, who tallied two goals. Jean scored the first of his two goals at 15:01 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. Andrew Lane picked up the assist. Jean's next tally made the score 3-3 with 19:33 left in the second period. Slegers assisted on the tally. Gary Mantz also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Owen Kipke, who had two and Lucas Goodman and Nate Schnarr, who each chipped in one. Alexander Brooks-Potts made 39 saves for Stratford on 42 shots. The Cullitons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Siskins incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
