Elmira holds on for 4-3 win against Stratford

The Stratford Cullitons tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Elmira Sugar Kings held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Zac Coulter put Elmira up 4-2 in the third period, but Stratford pulled to within one on Zander Pryor's tally 8:47 into the third period.

With the win, the Sugar Kings avoided elimination to make the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series.

Elmira got the win with help from a great game by Coulter, who had one goal and two assists. Coulter scored on the power play 6:03 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Elmira. A slashing penalty on Zach Van Louwe had put the Sugar Kings on the power play. Rob Kohli assisted on the tally.

Elmira put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cullitons to score on any of their six power plays.

Elmira also got points from Mackenzie MacSorley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Ryley Cribbin and Jake Moggy, who scored one goal each.

The Sugar Kings were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Stratford was helped by Hayden Broomhead, who registered one goal. Broomhead scored 8:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Elmira. Josh Miller picked up the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Jack Scanlan, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Pryor, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Stratford received assists from Brock Heshka and Anthony Kotsovos, who each chipped in one.

Jonathan Reinhart rejected 40 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Alexander Brooks-Potts recorded 26 saves for the Cullitons. Stratford incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
