St. Catharines downs Ancaster in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Mitchell Webb gave the St. Catharines Falcons a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Ancaster Avalanche when he scored 5:37 into the extra period.

The win gave St. Catharines a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Falcons got the win on the strength of a great game by Nicholas Dozzi, who had one goal and two assists. Dozzi scored on the power play 11:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on Cole Nagy had put St. Catharines on the power play. Jake Evans assisted on the tally.

Ancaster's power play was ineffective against the Falcons' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

St. Catharines was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Brandon Cercone as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Broderick Kelly and Tyler Jackson, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons were unable to stop the Avalanche from sending pucks towards the net, and Ancaster eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Avalanche were helped by Joshua Pace, who grabbed one goal. Pace scored 4:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. Ryan Knill picked up the assist. Matt Mannella also scored for Ancaster. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Ben Hughes and Max Balinson, who contributed one each.

St. Catharines' Joel Horodziejczyk stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Falcons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Cole Ceci recorded 17 saves for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
