Burlington rolls over Oakville, 11-4Appleby Arena Mon, Mar 21, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Oakville Blades had trouble finding ways to stop the Burlington Cougars, which beat Blades, 11-4. With the win, Burlington evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Stefano Alonzi had one goal and two assists to lead the Cougars. Alonzi scored 8:39 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Burlington. Ben Morris provided the assist. Oakville's seven penalties came back to haunt it, as the Blades let up four goals while on the penalty kill. Burlington forced Oakville's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 33 shots and forcing 22 saves. Brendan McGlynn made 16 stops and Michael Botiz made six. The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blades to score on any of their three power plays. Burlington got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Burlington additionally got points from Mike Faliero, who also registered one goal and one assist, Kevin Dimagno, who also tallied one goal and two assists, David Thomson, who also had one goal and two assists, Philip Lagunov, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Morris, who also registered one goal and one assist, James McLaughlin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Chris Cobham, who also had one goal and one assist. Willy Paul also scored for Burlington. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Tyler Riter, who had one, Jordan Peacock, who had four, and Zac Herrmann and Nathan Gomes, who contributed two each. Oakville was helped by Bryce Misley, who racked up one goal and one assist. Misley scored 11:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. Eric Holland assisted on the tally. Oakville also got points from Holland, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Oakville also had goals scored by Ryan Foss and Jackson Bales, who each put in one. In addition, Oakville received assists from Oliver Benwell, Brayden Sampson, Drew Worrad, Ryan Garvey, and Christian Rajic, who each chipped in one. Andrew Lee rejected 22 shots on goal for the Cougars. Burlington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Blades incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
