Huge game by Nitta boosts Texas over Atlanta, 8-4

Nick Nitta was all over the ice for Texas, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Texas' 8-4 win over Atlanta.

Nitta scored on the power play at 3:07 into the third period to make the score 5-5 and again while on the power play 14:31 into the third to make the score 8-5 Texas.

The win by Texas clinched the best of three series at 2-1.

Atlanta's 12 penalties came back to haunt it, as Atlanta let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Texas forced Atlanta's goaltenders to work in net, racking up 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Aleksandr Zendejas made 23 stops and Corey Boettcher made six. The defensemen of Texas were also effective in Atlanta's zone, and came away with two goals.

Texas also got points from Victor Ekk, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle Galloway, who also had one goal and two assists, and Sam Gagnon, who also registered one goal and one assist. Texas also got a goal from Bryan Whelan as well. In addition, Texas received assists from George Hansen, who had two, Ryan Dunner, who had four, and Jacob Elrod, Oliver Hay, and Zack Andersen, who contributed one each.

Atlanta was helped by Ross Bartlett, who finished with one goal. Bartlett scored 17:37 into the second period to make the score 5-4 Atlanta. Drew Kelly assisted on the tally. Atlanta also had goals scored by Kyle Rimbach, Jack Cleaver, Drake Cartwright, and Alex Johanson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Atlanta came via Ryan Dumond, who had two and Andrew Cooley, Philip Pugliese, Arturas Laukaitis, and Frank Trazzera, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Myers rejected 24 shots on goal for Texas. Texas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Atlanta totaled 67 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and one major and went 2-for-2 on the power play. Atlanta ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bartlett was ejected from the game.
