Atlanta blows out Texas, 5-1

Atlanta had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over Texas.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Texas faces elimination next time out.

Philip Pugliese had a great game for Atlanta, netting two goals. Pugliese found the back of the net short handed 8:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Atlanta and again while 18:40 into the first to make the score 3-0 Atlanta.

Atlanta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Texas to score on any of its five power plays. Atlanta's offense rang up 36 shots on Texas' net.

Others who scored for Atlanta included Arturas Laukaitis, Alex Johanson, and Ross Bartlett, who each put in one. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Jesse Brown, Ryan Dumond, and Colin OConnor, who contributed one each and Kyle Rimbach and Evan Camba, who each chipped in two.

Texas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Texas was led by Jacob Elrod, who scored the team's only goal. Elrod scored 13:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Atlanta. Kyle Galloway picked up the assist.

Aleksandr Zendejas made 18 saves for Atlanta on 19 shots. Atlanta incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brandon Perrone recorded 31 saves for Texas. Texas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
