Huge game by Pawley boosts Caledonia over Niagara Falls, 5-2

Behind a great game by Corey Pawley, who had four goals and one assist, the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks, 5-2.

Pawley got on the scoresheet 11:47 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:14 into the third, at 10:16 into the third, and at 15:17 into the third.

The win gave Caledonia a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Corvairs' offense rang up 39 shots on Niagara Falls' net. Caledonia was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Caledonia additionally got points from Matthew Hore, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Caledonia came via Mitchell Fitzmorris, who had three and Blake Luscombe and Daniel Volpe, who contributed one each.

The Canucks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Niagara Falls was helped by Matthew Marsden, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Marsden scored on the power play 25 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Frank Pucci picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got points from Zack Lansfield, who also registered one goal and one assist.

The Corvairs' Mark Sinclair stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Caledonia ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Team's Luscombe and Nick Zottl were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Adam Dentico made 34 saves for the Canucks on 39 shots. Niagara Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott Grieve was ejected from the game.
