Waterloo downs Kitchener in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Waterloo Siskins pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Kitchener Dutchmen on a clutch goal by Brett Schaefer.

The win by Waterloo clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Siskins came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Waterloo trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Kitchener's Matthew Cruickshank at 1:14 in the third period. The Siskins knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Lucas Goodman at 15:15 in the third period.

Waterloo was led by Schaefer, who registered one goal. Schaefer scored 9:20 into overtime to make the score 4-3 Waterloo. Conner Jean assisted on the tally.

The Siskins kept the Dutchmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cossimo Lazzarino made 46 saves on 50 shots.

Waterloo also got points from Owen Kipke, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Ryan Sparkes as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Andrew Lane, who had two and Nick Hirst and Jared Lindsay, who each chipped in one.

Kitchener forced Waterloo goalie Mitchell Datz to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Dutchmen were helped by Adam Kawalec, who had one goal. Kawalec scored 2:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. Austin Gaboury picked up the assist. Kitchener additionally got points from Gaboury, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Logan Schmidt, who had two and Connor Cole, who had three.

Datz recorded 31 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kitchener incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
