Brantford holds on for 5-4 win against Stoney Creek

The Stoney Creek Generals tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Brantford Blast held on for a 5-4 victory.

Brantford made the score 5-3 on a goal by Ryan McCarthy at 4:30 in the third period, and Stoney Creek got as close as 5-4 when Matt Ruberto scored 15:52 into the third period.

The win moved the Blast to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Brantford was led by McCarthy, who tallied one goal.

The Generals were unable to stop the Blast from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Blast's penalty kill unit could not stop Stoney Creek's power play, which converted on three of four opportunities.

Brantford also got points from Cameron Sault, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brantford included Ken Peroff, Chris Rebernik, and Dustin Alcock, who scored one goal each. In addition, Brantford received assists from Derek Medeiros, Brandon Dietrich, Jeff Caister, Joel Prpic, and Jamie Williams, who contributed one each.

The Generals forced Brantford goalie Anthony Marshall to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Stoney Creek's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Generals were led by Andrew Radjenovic, who registered one goal and one assist. Radjenovic scored on the power play 2:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stoney Creek. A slashing penalty on Dave Russell had put Stoney Creek on the power play. Mike Ruberto picked up the assist. Stoney Creek additionally got points from Dylan Quaile, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jarrett Konkle, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Ryan Healy, Tyler Donati, and Justin Donati, who each chipped in one.

The Blast's Marshall stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Brantford incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Daniel Svedin rejected 40 shots on goal for the Generals. Stoney Creek ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Generals, Justin Sawyer was ejected from the game.
