Brockville erases deficit to stun Cumberland, 5-4

The Brockville Braves climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Cumberland Grads, 5-4.

Brockville let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Braves took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Vincenzo Renda at 7:53 in the first period. Brockville found itself down 4-1 after Cumberland's Marc-Olivier Bouchard put the puck home at 14:06 in the second period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a goal by Neil Robinson at 5:38 in the third, the Braves got the game-winner from Michael Murray at 17:17 in the third period.

The win by Brockville clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The Braves got the win with help from a great game by Robinson, who had two goals and one assist. Robinson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:39 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cumberland. Brockville had gotten the advantage when the Grads' DAndre John was sent off for roughing. Jack Billings picked up the assist. Robinson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 14:22 left in the third period. Billings provided the assist.

The Braves excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Brockville forced Cumberland goalie Thierry Messervier to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Brockville also got a goal from Eric Faith as well. In addition, Brockville received assists from Ian Johnston, Liam Folkes, and Cameron Crotty, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were helped by Benoit Villeneuve, who had one goal. Villeneuve scored 10:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Shawn Cameron picked up the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Bouchard, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cumberland included Grant Hebert and Raphael Larose, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Zackhary Salloum, Michael Larose, Martin Frechette, and Joey Sollazzo, who contributed one each.

The Braves' Henry Johnson stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Brockville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Thierry Messervier made 33 saves for Cumberland on 38 shots. The Grads incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
