Essex survives Amherstburg comeback, wins 5-4

The Essex 73s survived a determined comeback attempt by the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals on the way to a 5-4 win.

Essex made the score 5-3 on a goal by Eric Shaw at 3:11 in the third period, and Amherstburg got as close as 5-4 when James Brooks scored 6:46 into the third period.

The win by the 73s clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Essex's offense rang up 35 shots on the Integrity Admirals' net.

The 73s were led by Matthew Hebert, who grabbed two goals. Hebert scored the first of his two goals at 14:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Essex. Tyler Scott picked up the assist. Hebert's next tally made the score 4-3 Essex with 44 seconds left in the second period. Essex had gained a power play chance when Chad Copeland was whistled for tripping. Luke Gecse assisted on the tally. Essex also had goals scored by Matthew Rosati and Griffin McCarty, who scored one goal each. In addition, Essex received assists from Cody Schneider, who had two and Brett Vorshuk, Matt Zelko, and Tyler Boughner, who contributed one each.

Amherstburg also got a goal from Caleb Paquette as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Ryan Alexander, Travis Campbell, Kasey Basile, and Luke Gangnon, who each chipped in one and Dylan Muzzatti and Broden Meloche, who contributed two each.

The 73s' Matt Badour stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Essex incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Connor Meyerink recorded 30 saves for Amherstburg. The Integrity Admirals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
