Essex shrugs off penalties, upends Amherstburg, 5-2Essex Centre Sports Complex Tue, Mar 08, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The win gave Essex a one-zero lead in the best of seven series. 73s were sparked by Brett Vorshuk, who finished with one goal. Vorshuk scored in the second period to make the score 3-1 Essex. William Stadder and Cody Leeming registered the assists on the goal. Essex put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Amherstburg to score on any of their six power plays. Matt Zelko also scored for Essex. More assists for Essex came via Tyler Boughner, Eric Shaw, Stadder, Anthony Cristofaro, Matthew Rosati, Adam Gaiarin, and Matthew Hebert, who contributed one apiece. Integrity Admirals were helped by James Brooks, who racked up one goal.Brooks scored in the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg. The goal was assisted by Travis Campbell and Jordan Luciw.Others who scored for Amherstburg included Ryan Holzel and Brooks, who scored one each. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Campbell and Luciw, who each chipped in one. Trevor Wheaton made 26 saves for 73s on 28 shots. Essex incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Amherstburg's Connor Meyerink stopped 22 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Integrity Admirals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
