Swindells leads Ayr to victory over New HamburgNorth Dumfries Sun, Mar 13, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The win by Ayr broke a deadlock and gave Ayr a two-one advantage in the best of seven series. New Hamburg threw everything they had at Centennials's Jackson Swindells, but he responded by making 37 saves to secure the win. Ayr kept Firebirds's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Purcell made 40 saves on 42 shots. Centennials were helped by Quinn Diamond, who had one goal.Diamond scored in the second period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. The score was assisted by Jake Whibbs and Riley Clipper.Ayr also had goals scored by Mitch Klie and Diamond, who each put in one. In addition, Ayr received assists from Whibbs, Clipper, Jordan Pettitt, and Tyler Harrison, who each chipped in one. New Hamburg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ayr to score on any of their seven power plays.Centennials were unable to stop Firebirds from sending pucks towards the net, and Firebirds eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.Firebirds were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. New Hamburg were led by Ethan Adair, who scored the team's only goal. Adair scored on the power play in the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Jerry Ennett assisted on the tally. Centennials incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Firebirds incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
