Napanee falls to Port Hope in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Port Hope Panthers' Matthew Cavanaugh scored 28 seconds into overtime to beat the Napanee Raiders, 4-3 (OT).

The win gave Port Hope a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Panthers came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Port Hope trailed 3-1 after a goal by Napanee's Brodie Butt at 17:59 in the second period. The Panthers knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Blane Gaudon at 12:40 in the third period.

Gaudon had two goals to lead Port Hope to victory.

The Panthers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their seven power plays. Port Hope kept Napanee's goalie busy throughout the game, and Paul Giusti made 34 saves on 38 shots.

Port Hope also got points from Dan Lagrois, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Hope came via Cameron McGill, Dalton Lawrence, and Evan Foley, who each chipped in two.

The Raiders were helped by Cullen Hinds, who registered one goal. Hinds scored 45 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Napanee. Austin Boulard picked up the assist. Napanee also got a goal from Michael Parr as well. In addition, Napanee received assists from Aidan McFarland, who had one and Matthew Muller and Will Peirson, who each chipped in two.

Aaron Young made 18 saves for the Panthers on 21 shots. Port Hope incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Napanee incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
