Walkerton beats Kincardine 6-3 as Elder gets hat trick

Lauchlin Elder lifted the Walkerton Hawks to a 6-3 victory with a hat trick against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

Elder notched his first tally 11:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:53 into the second and at 14:07 into the third.

With the win, Walkerton evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Kincardine's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Bulldogs let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Walkerton also got points from Chris RolfVonDenBauman, who also registered one goal and one assist, Josh Deyell, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Brendan Welsh, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Walkerton came via Connor Patton, Spencer Elder, Reid Simmons, and Tyler Cunningham, who each chipped in one.

Kincardine forced the Hawks goalie Nick Redman to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Bulldogs were helped by Patrick Wiejak, who tallied one goal. Wiejak scored on the power play 6:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kincardine. Kincardine had gotten the advantage when Walkerton's Austin Russell was sent off for checking from behind. Matthew Mah picked up the assist. Others who scored for Kincardine included Shawn Rooke and Brett Burrows, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kincardine received assists from Gerrit Satosek, who had one.

The Hawks' Redman stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Walkerton incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Hawks, Russell was ejected from the game. Jacob Hutchings took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Craig Luinstra (AP) who made nine saves. The Bulldogs incurred 46 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors.
