Trenton hangs on, beats Newmarket 2-0

The Trenton Golden Hawks beat the Newmarket Hurricanes, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Trenton took over the lead for good with a goal by Josh Allan at 37 seconds in the first period. Danny Hanlon assisted on the tally.

The win gave the Golden Hawks a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Trenton was boosted by Daniel Urbani, who turned in a shutout with 27 saves. The solid play of Urbani will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.57.

The Golden Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Trenton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Newmarket to score on any of its six power plays.

Trenton additionally got points from Hanlon, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Trenton came via Mitch Emerson, who had one and Hunter Fargey, who had two.

The Golden Hawks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Aidan Doak recorded 19 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
