Wellington holds on for 3-2 win against Aurora

The Aurora Tigers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Wellington Dukes held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Greg Smith put Wellington up 3-1 in the third period, but Aurora pulled to within one on Austin Gerhart's tally 10:54 into the third period.

The win gave the Dukes a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Wellington was sparked by Smith, who tallied one goal. Smith scored 3:40 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wellington. Chase St Aubin picked up the assist.

The Dukes stifled the Tigers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wellington kept Aurora's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joshua Boyko made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Wellington additionally got points from Dylan Mascarin, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jacob Panetta also scored for Wellington. More assists for Wellington came via Justin Bean, Jacob Hetherington, and Ben Sokay, who contributed one each.

The Dukes were unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and Aurora eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Aurora also got a goal from Alex Formenton as well. In addition, Aurora received assists from Evan Kearns, Daniel Mantenuto, Drake Board, and Liam Neuman, who each chipped in one.

Olivier Lafreniere made 37 saves for Wellington on 39 shots. The Dukes incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Tigers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
