Chatham erases deficit to stun St. Thomas, 4-3

The St. Thomas Stars could not hold down the Chatham Maroons, and Maroons erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Chatham never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Maroons fell behind 3-1 after a power play goal by St. Thomas' Carson Moniz at 19:44 in the second period. Chatham tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Gus Ford at 8:53 in the third period. The Maroons netted the game winner at 9:23 in the third period on a goal by Ford.

The win gave Chatham a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Ian Faubert had a great game for the Maroons, netting two goals. Faubert scored on the power play at 6:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas and again while 1:58 into the third to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas.

Chatham forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Ross Krieger also scored for Chatham. In addition, Chatham received assists from Ryan Fraser, who had two and Connor McKinnon, Devin Panzeca, Michael Douglas, Austin Thompson, and Cory Bussing, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas was helped by Lucas Mastroianni, who racked up one goal. Mastroianni scored 6:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Thomas. Cal Horvat assisted on the tally. St. Thomas also got a goal from Adam Keyes as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Matt MacPherson, Spencer Hutchinson, James Newland, Alex Turko, and Carson Brookshaw, who each chipped in one.

Parker Butler made four saves before being replaced by Brendan Johnston, who took the win and made 18 saves. The Maroons incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dampier recorded 31 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
