Brantford beats Kitchener 4-3 after comeback scare

The Kitchener Dutchmen tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Brantford 99ers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Christian Polillo put Brantford up 4-0 in the second period, but Kitchener pulled to within one on Logan Schmidt's tally 19:15 into the third period.

The win moved the 99ers to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Brantford forced the Dutchmen goalie Cossimo Lazzarino to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The 99ers were led by Kyle Walker, who registered one goal and two assists. Walker scored on the power play 8:28 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Brantford. Brantford had taken the advantage when Kitchener's Marselis Subban got sent off for slashing. Polillo assisted on the tally. Brantford also got points from Polillo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brantford included Macklin McPhee and Jay Dekker, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Jack Phibbs, Isaac Nurse, Matthew Woods, and Brandon Scanlin, who contributed one each.

The Dutchmen kept the 99ers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Will Rawski made 51 saves on 54 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Kitchener additionally got points from Matthew Cruickshank, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Connor Cole and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one.

Brantford totaled 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 3-for-15 on the power play. Team's Jonathan Pace and Nick Visser were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Lazzarino rejected 32 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors.
