Mount Forest wins tough contest against Kincardine, 4-2

The Mount Forest Patriots gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Trevor Hughson at 16:09 of the second period.

With the win, Mount Forest evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Hughson was all over the ice for the Patriots, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hughson scored the first of his two goals at 5:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Hughson's next tally made the score 3-2 Mount Forest with 3:51 left in the second period. Liam Francis picked up the assist.

Mount Forest stifled Kincardine's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Others who scored for Mount Forest included Blair Butchart and Michael Stefanelli, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Kyle Hunter, who had one and Ty Jackson, who had two.

The Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Mount Forest power plays. The Patriots were unable to stop Kincardine from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Kincardine was helped by Shawn Rooke, who tallied one goal. Rooke scored 18:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kincardine. Tyler Fregona assisted on the tally. Kincardine also got a goal from Dalton Hnatko as well. In addition, Kincardine received assists from Gerrit Satosek, Brady Richards, and Patrick Wiejak, who each chipped in one.

Mathieu Oullette rejected 41 shots on goal for Mount Forest. The Patriots incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jacob Hutchings made 25 saves for the Bulldogs on 29 shots. Kincardine incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shawn Moore was ejected from the game.
