Ayr beats Wellesley 7-2 as Klie gets hat trick

A hat trick by Mitch Klie was the highlight in Centennials' 7-2 win against the Wellesley Applejacks.

Klie got on the scoresheet 11:40 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:00 into the second and at 5:22 into the third.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Wellesley faces elimination next time out.

The Applejacks were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as the Ayr Centennials were able to score four times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:35 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Wellesley was unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Ayr managed to hold the Applejacks' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. The Centennials got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Ayr also got points from Ben Roelofson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Cash Seraphim, who also had one goal and two assists. Ayr also had goals scored by Nolan Ferris and Quinn Diamond, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ayr came via Matt Harding, who had two, Tyler Harrison, who had four, and Connor MacLean, Cole Cummings, and Brendan Schaefer, who contributed one each.

Wellesley kept Ayr's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Figueirdo made 30 saves on 32 shots.

The Applejacks were helped by Brenden Goran, who grabbed one goal. Goran scored short handed 23 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-2 Ayr. Nick Mercier picked up the assist. Shaun Pickering also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Brady Gerber, who had one.

The Centennials ended with 61 minutes in penalty time with 18 minors and one major. For Ayr, Harding was ejected from the game. Ryan Hergott rejected 36 shots on goal for Wellesley. The Applejacks ended with 95 minutes in penalty time with 20 minors and one major. For Wellesley, Jake Wilkinson, Tyson Bender, Justin Lebold, and Nick Palmer were ejected from the contest.
