New Hamburg rides Purcell to victory over Paris, 3-1

The New Hamburg Firebirds relied on the sparkling performance of Ryan Purcell in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Paris Mounties.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Paris faces elimination next time out.

New Hamburg was led by Carter Tracey, who racked up one goal. Tracey scored 16:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. Quinten Haddock provided the assist.

The Firebirds kept the Mounties' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hayden Padalino made 39 saves on 42 shots.

New Hamburg also had goals scored by Tyler Randerson and Curtis Smith, who scored one goal each. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Tyler Hoffman, who had two and Chris Eckert and Walker Davison, who each chipped in one.

Paris was led by Graham Evans, who scored the team's only goal. Evans scored on the power play 12:54 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A holding penalty on Davison had put the Mounties on the power play. Brodie Smith picked up the assist.

Purcell rejected 28 shots on goal for New Hamburg. The Firebirds incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Paris incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
