Brantford wins tough contest against Whitby, 3-2Brantford Civic Centre Fri, Feb 19, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brantford Blast and the Whitby Dunlops were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Brantford made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. The Blast gained the winning advantage on a goal by Derek Medeiros 4:20 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave Brantford a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Blast were sparked by Ryan McCarthy, who had one goal. McCarthy scored 10:17 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Brantford. Mark Taylor picked up the assist. In the losing effort, Whitby was led by Corey Tamblyn, who registered two goals. Tamblyn scored the first of his two goals at 17:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Scott Freeman assisted on the tally. Tamblyn's next tally made the score 3-2 Brantford with 5:52 left in the second period. Freeman picked up the assist. Brantford forced the Dunlops goalie Jason Guy to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Brantford additionally got points from Medeiros, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Joel Prpic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Brantford came via Ken Peroff and Chris Rebernik, who each chipped in one. Whitby's offense rang up 43 shots on the Blast's net. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Brett McConnachie, who had two. Anthony Marshall made 41 saves for Brantford on 43 shots. The Blast incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Guy rejected 34 shots on goal for the Dunlops. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
