Walkerton outlasts Mitchell, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Walkerton Hawks escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Mitchell Hawks.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Chris RolfVonDenBauman's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Mitchell faces elimination next time out.

RolfVonDenBauman was all over the ice for Walkerton, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Walkerton eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Walkerton additionally got points from Braden Boley, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brooks Nelthorpe, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Chris Gillman also scored for Walkerton. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Brendan Welsh, Spencer Elder, Reid Simmons, and Austin Russell, who each chipped in one.

Mitchell was led by Jake Finlayson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Finlayson scored on the power play 2:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mitchell. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Ryan Hamelin was whistled for head contact. Haydn Favacho picked up the assist. Others who scored for Mitchell included Garrett James and Chad Lemire, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Lucas Spence and Nic Jung, who contributed one each.

Nick Redman rejected 18 shots on goal for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mitchell's Brock Baier stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mitchell ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chace Duckworth was ejected from the game.
